Creepy Crawly from Blue Ribbon Designs
'The stitching tools from my basket, are laid to rest in this tiny casket!' If this isn't the cutest little set of sewing pieces for Halloween... they are a hoot! Blue Ribbon has created such a fun little set of things... the (almost 5 x 7) casket to hold scissors and threads, a needlecase with a tombstone front, and the 'pushed-up daisies on the back, the black cat pin keep, and the bat scissor fob. When you open your casket, you'll find the 'preserved threads' and a stitched skeleton!!!

WAY, WAY cute, this project took a lot of creativity, and it just brings a big smile to your face! I don't think you'll find another available on the market, quite like this! Offered as a chart, all the finishing instructions are included, stitching is done with overdyed flosses.

Baby's First Christmas from JBW Designs - click to see more English Plum Pudding from JBW Designs - click to see more September 13
New Arrivals from JBW Designs!
Judy Whitman has released 6 new small-card designs... English Plum Pudding and Baby's First Christmas are two of my favorites! The Plum Pudding is charming... quite different from the normal Christmas motif... it finishes approx 5 x 5 on 28ct, and is a medley of hidden tinier motifs. Baby's First Christmas features three separate ornament designs. Embellishments include a white pom pom, red jade heart, and brass holly charm -- one embellishment for each design.

Personalize each with that special new name, and make sure to date the ornaments... so that when 'baby' turns 40... she can't fib about her age! Judy's other designs are all Christmas in theme, and Country French in flavor.

The All Hallows Eve Stitching Box from Liberty Hill - click to see more September 12
The All Hallows Eve Stitching Box from Liberty Hill
Oh my gosh, this is *the cutest* little handpainted trinket box by Carolyn at Liberty Hill! Limited in production from September 1st to November 1st of 2008 -- that's only 2 months, stitchers, don't let this one pass you by! The little 5 x 3-1/2 x 2 oval box is painted and distressed on its sides and bottom. Top features a small graveyard scene, complete with little house that doesn't look haunted!

Open your box to find the bottom lined with a piece of Weeks Houndstooth hand-dyed wool. It cushions a TINY 1/2-inch wooden pumpkin fob to dress your scissors. Next, is a thread board, hand-painted too, that holds current threads, and just looks cute. Third, is a 1-3/4 inch painted board with a ring attached -- to hold small cards you've wound your flosses onto! NO stitching involved to enjoy your tiny trinket box... just use it as your thread storage box for small Halloween projects! Just fun!

Quakers and Quilts from Rosewood Manor - click to see more September 11
Quakers and Quilts from Rosewood Manor
This is a really cool 3-part piece... I didn't realize its versatility, till I saw the monochromatic Quaker half pictured on the booklet's back cover. Look carefully... the top third is a simple alphabet which would be pretty all by itself. Next, add the row of Quaker motifs. Stunning... you even have enough information in the charts to duplicate the missing tops in case you want just that row! Finally, finish off with the intricate row of quilt blocks!

Each one of those in incredible just by itself... but put them together, and wow! One of Karen's trademarks is all her extra 'Bonus Charts' scattered throughout her patterns, this one being no different. You get smaller Quaker samplers, more little borders, and all sorts of project ideas for needlecases, etc. The entire piece measures 19 x 10 on 32ct, so its quite generous in size. Just stunning!

Rosewood Manor has three new releases... make sure to see all three!

The Florentine Borders Sewing Chest from Primitive Traditions - click to see more September 9
The Florentine Borders Sewing Chest
from Primitive Traditions
Once again, Cathy Campbell of Primitive Traditions has out-done herself with a stunning sewing chest design! Originally offered as a teaching piece, I've been waiting 3 years for her to release this!!!! (every market... my plea persisted...!) Your hand-painted 9 x 6 x 6 faux-finished chest features little ball feet and a lift-off lid. The Florentine Borders cover the entire outside top (solid stitching), and are worked in Crosses and Flame Stitch.
The Florentine Borders Sewing Chest from Primitive Traditions - click to see more
Next, the interior of the top features the Needles and Pins verse with little sampler beside the words. A pin cushion and scissor pocket! Inside the chest, all the sides are decorated with more Flame and flower borders. Bottom piece features a sampler motif with room for your initials. Cathy gives you pages and pages of extra alphabets and motifs in here, in case you want something else in the bottom of your exquisite little chest.

The entire thing is stitched on 36ct Lakeside Linens Light Examplar Linen (piece placement guide is included) in 11 different shades of Needlepoint silks of yellow, blue, green taupe and brown. (If those colors aren't your favorite, you can change them... but wait till you get the chart to study the stitch patterns.) You will need to enlarge the graphs to see all the tightly packed symbols that give this piece so much movement, pattern and awesome impact!!!

Note: Cathy has promised our shipment of Sarah Elliott Chests by September 20th. If you have one on "RESERVE" with us, we'll be in touch! Our shipment of Florentine is very limited, with not much promise of more chests to come before year-end. We WILL have both the Sarah Elliott and Florentine Chest stitched models in our booth at The upcoming Celebrations Show in Louisville, Kentucky, October 9, 10 and 11th. If you wait to order them at that time, shipment will schedule for next March -- 2009.)

Like the others in this series, the ecru colors all look understated and elegant stitched on the 28ct Summer Khaki linen that is provided in the complete kit. (Beads, threads, pearls, linen, chart and needle!) Finishing approx 5 x 5, calling all Owl-Lovers!!!

Holiday Holly Biscornus

from The Sweetheart Tree
Sandie has released 2 more pin cushions that match her tiny scissor fobs of the same names! The fifth and sixth in the set, these are larger versions of the fobs, each of these are offered as complete kits of charts, linens, beads and embellishments, and finishes into that strange little *octagonal-pointy-thingie* that nobody THINKS they can assemble! (but you really can -- by hand in an hour or so.)

Blackberry is stitched on the Natural/Ecru Graziano Gingham in 902, 3051 and 3052, and garnished with berry-colored beads. Holiday Holly is slightly different on each side, and is stitched on 28ct Natural/Opalescent Cashel Linen. Full of Christmas reds and greens, it features 10 tiny frosted glass flower embellishments and a few pearls.
These little biscornus are just awesome, and quite the eye-catcher nearby their matching fobs!!! So far, we have Cherry Blossoms, Rhodes Butterfly, Cat Lovers and Baby Shamrocks... with more on the way! Sandie has announced future plans to make matching needlecases for all in this series, too!!!

My Stitching Album by Jeannette Douglas - click to see moreMy Stitching Album by Jeannette Douglas has arrived!
Jeannette's new 8-part sampler notebook begins with our first shipment of album cover and first sampler -- Mosaic Muze -- charts. We've shown you the actual album project pictures on our inside JD pages, but the album instructions -- the paperwork, charts and threads have finally come.

Beautifully presented, you get pretty paper covers to insert inside the front and side panel of one of those clear-covered 1-inch binders from the office supply store. Next, can you see the pages with organizing tabs? Here are sheets and sheets of instructions for the actual stitched album -- colored photos of the assembly process, and all.
My Stitching Album by Jeannette Douglas - click to see moreA section for the front and back covers follows -- with its thread package, then another for the Mosaic Muze piece -- with its thread package, as well. (LOVELY hand-dyeds.) Because of the binder format, everything is so easy to follow, and so very organized!

Mosaic Muze has 7 pages of charts and diagrams, extra graph paper, a page for personal notes, and finally a 'stitching hours log sheet!' This is just the coolest project, presented in such a fun format. It is truly different from anything else on the market, and we're really excited about it! We're offering an auto for it... starting with the covers and chapter one. Rest of chapters follow every two months until November of 2009.

More Mother-of-Pearl Heirloom Buttons
European Mother-of-Pearl buttons - click to see moreWe've received another shipment of European Mother-of-Pearl buttons -- carved or embossed -- that are exquisite as biscornu centers, or closures on special needle and sewing cases. Very limited in supply... I doubt that we'll be able to get more after this latest shipment has sold. Just a real short-time treat!!!

#21 measures 9/16 of an inch, and is a whiter finish. #22 is the same size, but it has a darker pearl color. Both feature a shank back. #23 is almost 3/4 of an inch, embossed and carved (how do they DO that?) and features a shank backing. #36 is just like the 22 and 23, only it has no shank, and it's PINK!!! Think Pink!!! Just lovely.

Boys and Bugs & Princess Parade
from Country Cottage Needleworks
Country Cottage has two new designs that are perfect for young bedrooms! I picture best friends depicted in both of these... customize some hair colors, add some names of the featured foursome of friends... and you have lasting memories of days -- soon to pass!
Both are offered as charts, stitched on 28ct, they finish approx 6-1/2 x 8-1/2, and are stitched in DMC and overdyed flosses. Very, very cute!!!!

We have two new Little House Needleworks releases, too!

September 4
Guarded Gate and Shepard's Shade
from Threads That Bind
Threads That Bind has delivered us 5 new designs for Punch Needle that are stunning! I opted to show two of my favorites here, because I couldn't decide which one I liked better! The Halloween Haunted house is punched in Sampler Threads of burgundys, browns and lots of accenting blacks and golds. I LOVE the design 'movement' and the 'flow' of the hand-dyed threads. Can't you *just feel* the blowing wind and *hear* the night howls?

Shepard's Shade from Threads That Bind - click to see moreShawn presents each design stamped onto weaver's cloth. She gives you a huge PIECE, so that you can get the entire design into your hoop or frame all at once. Guarded Gate's material measures 14 x 16 for a 6 x 6 design. Next, Shepard's Shade offers an 18 x 20 chunk for its 6 x almost 12 oval! Actually quite a simple design to punch, this one lets the DMC flosses do the work of the color changes... simply thread the needle with a new color in the background and grass.

Threads That Bind has some of the very best punch needle available on the market. Her stamps are clear, weaver's cloth is heavy and dense, and her designs are perennial shop and show favorites!

Stitchy Acres, this month's Secret Needle Night Design
Designed by Brooke Nolan
Finishing by Mona Bost
Our Halloween tribute to all your UFOs (unfinished objects!) Brooke has designed us Stitchy Acres... where you've buried all those who have come before and deserve to be forgotten!!! The ultimate in needlework disposal... Stitchy Acres!

The restful place where you can choose to bury all your unfinished pieces that you never care to see again!!! Our middle stone says RIP... and we've left the other two stones to you -- to personalize! A lovely Fyrewerks metallic harvest moon, the wrought iron cemetery gates we've done in Very Velvet, and that ridiculous metallic toad who's waiting to be kissed... it's darling!

Mona's tombstone hanging finishes off Stitchy Acres with style! (complete with bats and Halloween moons!) Tonight's recipe is for S-Mores Brownies... very gooey... like you need more sugar at Halloween...!
Petite Stainless Steel Scissors - click to see more

Petite Stainless Steel Scissors
Kind of a Plain-Jane name for a dynamite little scissor... these are much more exciting than their name implies! A very sturdy, 2-5/8 inch scissor, these feature a brushed stainless finish with strong 3/4-inch blades. The tips are sharp, they have a nice, tight, crisp action... they are just great little scissors!!!

Perfect for travel -- because of the short blades. (I always get a kick out of leaving things like this out with my cosmetics in the airport security line, because they usually ignore them as totally insignificant -- but I've GOT MY SCISSORS!!!) Very nice, especially for the price!!!

Hocus Pocus
from Pine Mountain
Oh my gosh... this little pillow is just the cutest! AWESOME, bright oranges, purples, slime lime, and black... Sandy's design this month is really cute, and very cheerful tucked amidst her bold fabric choices on your Top Tie. These kits are great, because they are complete... the wrap you see is already made, all you add is the cross-stitching in the 4 x 4 middle area!

Those bows at the top are tied with the organza ribbon that is already attached to the wrapper... these make you look like a *great artist* after only an hour of two of time!!! Kit includes that wrapper, chart, needle and scissors. A GREAT travel project because of the 10ct fabric!!

Christmas Sampler Bride's Tree Box and 12 Ornaments
from The Victoria Sampler
New from The Victoria Sampler is this awesome set of 12 ornaments, and larger sampler, designed to be inserted into a box (top) that stores the precious ornaments! Inspired by a German tradition that suggests a couple's tree needs 12 specific ornaments for happiness in their life's journey together, what a wonderful wedding gift, or momento to celebrate Christmas together!

Each (1 to 1-1/2 inch-ish) ornament has a specific meaning, outlined in the pattern. Loaded with pretty specialty stitches and cool silks, metallics and a few beads, finishing instructions are supplied for the ornaments. (VS suggests their Beautiful Finishing Ornaments Leaflet, which has dozens of actual finishing pictures all along the construction process, if you want a little more help on the finishing end. It's very nicely done.)

Peace from A Stitcher's Hands
An extraordinary new sampler by Stitcher's Hands, the lesson delivered in the verse is about love. 'Could we forbear disputes, and practice love, we should agree as angels do above. Weak tho we are, to love is no hard task, so love is all that heaven doth ask.'

Well... that is delivered inside of one of the most intricate stitch patterns in our sampler collection! Stitch count of 578 x 941... (on 32ct that measures approx 36 x 60 INCHES!!!), the pattern calls for 28ct Flax over one thread, which comes to 21 x 34! Becky took 5 years to design and stitch this piece that is absolutely beyond description. The colors of silk (coded for DMC, as well) are rich reds, blues, golds, greens and black. Completely stitch in crosses, the borders and lettering in here are stunning. The shading is exquisite, the motifs and patterns are breathtaking!

Of course, there are some of you that will stitch this entire piece, but for the rest of us... think of an area or two that you could stitch... to make something smaller to cherish. This is simply a pattern you *have to have* because a *real person* designed it -- years and years of love and emotions are apparent. The silk set (67 skeins of 20 different colors) we offer will be enough to stitch this over one thread on 28ct, or smaller areas over a larger count linen. An absolute work of ART!

True Left-handed Embroidery Scissors from Dovo - click to see moreTrue Left-handed Embroidery Scissors from Dovo
For the first time the Dovo Scissor manufacturers of Solingen, Germany, have produced a 3-1/2 inch embroidery scissor that is REALLY left-handed!!! Their lovely, butter-smooth brushed stainless finish makes these 1-inch blades swoosh so smoothly... makes you want to try to cut everything in sight! A nice, lightweight feel, the blades are thin and sharp. Comparing to the Gingher SN3, these blades are about 1/2 the thickness!!!

True left-handed scissors ARE different than right-handed. The 'top blade' comes down on the left side. Right-handed scissors' top blade comes down on the right. You really don't notice the difference in looking at them... but when you try to cut with them, something is *just different!* (Kind of like the water going down the drain swirling in the other direction -- south of the equator!) Truly a wonderful thing for us lefty-cutters... the Dovo sample at Market was presented with a painted finish... but I asked them to make mine in the classic, brushed finish that is everyone's favorite. (And they DID that for me!!!)

Decorated with mermaids, seashells, waves and a sterling starfish charm, this is a complete kit that contains the Birdhouse Enterprises box kit of pre-cut boards.
The threads included in the kit are quite varied: Crescents, Weeks and Gentle Art overdyed flosses, Wildflowers hand-dyed silks, and a bit of icy-blue metallic braid, the colors are dusty, nautical and lovely.
All lining fabrics are included, so your beach house will look like our pic... and be MUCH easier to afford and maintain than its counterpart by the sea! Check out the matching scissor case, too!

I think it'd be pretty on a light linen, as well, if the suggested color is too dark for your tastes. Our chart includes the pineapple and bird charms.

(I know the darling lime frame is quite limited, as well! But, you might have a purple, orange, or copper Whimzi frame in your stash...)

While there are only 13 ornaments in this first issue, they are a *really good batch!* and deserve your attention! Homespun Elegance's features one of their brass pumpkin buttons, The Sweetheart Tree's is a pretty Fall pumpkin patch, and Sam Sarah's is a jointed skeleton! Get your magazine, then order just the ingredients for the ornaments you want.

2008 Santa from The Prairie Schooler
For the 25TH YEAR IN A ROW... Prairie Schooler has designed a classic Santa, always on the single card, always the same 4 x 3-ish, always following the same color scheme... so that by now, you have a *fantastic* set!!! Stitch them large or small, pillow or afghan, fob or ornament... we've seen everything over the years!!! Santa 2008 has presents in his sack, a sled, skinny tree, and blowing scarf. Just classic, this year!

Most of the previous Santas are still available... some in a single card, some only in the reprinted sets of 4 designs. They're scattered throughout our Prairie Schooler Page. Make sure you take a look at PS's 4 newest leaflets -- #148 thru 152 -- freshly released! The new 148 is the companion to 140... take a cruise down the page to see lots of tried and true designs.

Two of Prairie Schooler's four new books, these each celebrate a particular month of the year. 'Dull November brings the blast, then the leaves go whirling past.' 'Chill December brings the sleet, a blazing fire, and Holiday treat.'

Classic Prairie Schooler flavor, they are both absolutely charming! (No pinning Nancy and Pam down to the possibility of the other 10 months yet...) Large sampler measures approx 6 x 9 on 32ct, smaller pieces run approx 5-ish inches, and December's ornaments are a petite 23 x 36 stitch count. There is a new snowman book, and a Halloween book with *attitude* (!), too, so don't miss them.

Halloween Greetings
from Trail Creek Farm

Susan has designed a really cool Treat Bag for Halloween! She has out-done herself with this one... and I just love it! First, the kit contains the READY MADE 12 x 13 black and white checkered totebag, complete with yellow polka-dot handle. Next, she's taken 30ct Honeysuckle Weeks hand-dyed linen, and hand-screened a pattern on there -- to give it the Banana Popsicle flavor!

Fun, funky squares of a background pattern -- very subtle behind your stitching. Next, you stitch the witches and pumpkins, using Weeks hand-dyed flosses, and finally attach all to the bag with the included fabric-covered buttons! Stitched area measures approx 5 x 6... but with the bag, you get lots of visual impact for that 5 x 6 inch area! Awesome, bright colors, the screening on the linen is such a cool, fresh idea... this is darling!

Cute door decoration or fun candy bag! Kit includes the bag, screened linen, chart and covered buttons. You add the flosses from your stash. (She's even tied the package together with orange, yellow and black checkered ribbon that you can use to dress up the tote!)

Bone Appetit from The Cricket Collection
Well... *never* trust a skinny cook! Chefs 'Click' and 'Clack' are stirring up a big pot of haunting stew... that YOU are welcome to try! (I'm on a diet!) What a fun kitchen decoration to offer a lighthearted warning that this IS the haunting time of year... 'and one must beware of that which is simmering in the soup pot!' Stitched on 30ct hand-dyed, it uses regular DMC flosses, finishes approx 9 x 9, and has a couple of little blackbird embellishments.

Offered as a chart, Vicki has also included a really cool strawberry pin cushion design in here... that is only pictured in the top little preview area of the pattern cover! It finishes approx 2-1/2-ish inches around, and is stitched in a medley of awesome fall colors. Full of little maple leaf motifs, she includes the finishing templates and instructions for the emery-filled berry and wool topping.

Both designs in this pack are dynamite... you'll want to stitch them ASAP! For Bone Appetit, Weeks hand-dyeds Straw, Kudzu, Scuppernong or Guacamole would be great color choices of fabric, for the berry... you might want a darker -- Onyx, Gunmetal, Aztec Red, Chestnut or Havana, as the topper is Chestnut Herringbone (but I like Houndstooth better!)

Christmas Collection from Leisure Arts Santa's Great Book from Leisure Arts Santa's Great Book
An Oldie-but-Goodie arrived back in the shop this week... an old (1996) -- but freshly printed -- 144-page softcover book stuffed full of 40 different Santa designs previously published by Leisure Arts PRIOR to 1996! Quite a bit in here, some of these old designs are just the best! All charted for DMC flosses.
Christmas Collection
Another of Leisure Art's classic Oldies Books... I LOVE these vintage-inspired designs that are so hard to find anymore. This leaflet contains 6 awesome designs (stitched on 14 or 28ct, that are pairs. Finishing approx 3 x 6, 4 x 7 and 5 x 8, each pair has a FEATURED 9 x 12 paper mat that is included in the book, so you can use it in your framing process. See the holly berries on the two cover designs? THAT paper is included IN THIS BOOK for your finishing. Very well done, very traditional, all are coded for DMC floss. Absolutely charming designs!

2008 Ornament Trio from Homespun Elegance
Every year, Homespun Elegance brings us ornament designs... one is always a Santa, one always a snowman, and the third is always a house or sampler. Offered as charts, each comes with a small brass embellishment of some sort. This year's set is CHARMING! 'Santa, Please Bring Me' features a scissor charm on the Santa, Rainbow Gallery Wisper threads for his beard and fur trim, and the list he's reading asks for 'linen, floss and TIME TO STITCH!!!'

The snowman piece is worked on Weeks hand-dyed Aztec Red 30ct linen, and the 'ABC Noel House' is worked on Weeks 30ct Dolphin. All finish in the neighborhood of 3 x 4-ish, and use some overdyed flosses, as well as DMCs. We have quite a few of the previous year's designs available... I checked my shop stash, and we have some back to 1999! So check out the Homespun Elegance pages and see if you can find some of the rest in these cute sets... they are popular every year!

Into The Night from Shepherd's Bush
Just one of the new kits that have just arrived today... Into the Night features a little sheep dressed for the holiday in a green floral cape! He's visiting a little graveyard that is actually full of happy pumpkins, striped and swirled squashes, a few bats, a lovely wrought iron fence, and another little sheep hiding behind a crooked tombstone!

Offered as a kit, this is stitched on 32ct hand-dyed clay linen, and finishes approx 3 x 9-1/2. It's stitched in LUSCIOUS shades of Gloriana, Belle Soie and Thread Gatherer's hand-dyed silks. Pumpkin-y and mossy, the colors are just awesome! A few special stitches in here, too, Smyrnas, Herringbones, a few Cross variations... just bits here and there for a bit of texture and interest! REAL, real cute!

Christmas Tree from JBW Designs
Judy Whitman has released 6 new small card designs... Christmas Tree is just one of them! One summer sailboat, two autumn pumpkin and acorn designs, and three Christmas pieces... this one intrigues me the most. LOOK at the tree... what you DO NOT SEE in there are the hearts, trees, reindeer, holly leaves and a bow! I think there are tiny trees and cardinals in there, too... that *aren't stitched!* Your clues are the star at the tree's top, and that leaping reindeer -- can you find his shape hidden in the tree?

Offered as a small card, this piece is shown finished onto a Trail Creek Farm Giant Gingham Tree-Shaped pillow. Beautifully sewn, and stuffed FIRMLY -- very plump -- the 10 x 12 pillow is topped with a lavish organza bow. Very nicely done! MAKE SURE to see the rest of Judy's new things!

from Teresa Layman
Teresa Layman has released 12 new designs... here are two of my personal favorites!!! *Exquisite* miniature knotted rugs, pendants, or tiny framed artwork, her designs are charming and so full of details, you can't help but be enchanted! NOT cross stitch, these are stitched entirely in French and Colonial Knots with one strand of DMC or overdyed floss, and a tiny, sharp #10 needle. Design outlines come stamped on the fabric, and you 'paint-by-number' with your needle and thread!

They look *OVER THE TOP* hard, but honestly, you hold these in a little 5 or 6-inch hoop, filling the smallest areas first, then the background. Knots just fill in the area -- no counting on your part! Lovely as doll house rugs, awesome as little framed things... we have a learning 'Class-in-a-Box' DVD that Teresa has done, that shows you the whole process in less than 20 minutes!Click the pic to see the other 10 new releases!!!

She Tends -- click to see more She Tends from Shepherd's Bush
Shepherd's Bush has released a charming pastoral quartet of shepherdess designs... all presented together in one leaflet. 'She Tends, Garden Fair, His Flock, Tender Care.' Each tiny 2-3/4 inch block features part of the verse... each is stitched in overdyeds and includes all the same pretty flowers, tiny sheep and graceful hills.

Such pretty pinks, lavenders, moss greens and sunny buttermilks, you're treated to a lovely scene of the shepherd and shepherdess tending their flocks! Each block also features one of Tina and Terry's sterling charms -- a standing lamb, a leaping lamb, and the shepherd and garden girl. Stitch them individually, and then tuck each into the Jill Rensel hand cut and painted mat... it doesn't get any better than this! Offered as the leaflet, fabric (30ct hand-dyed) is offered separately, as well as the charms and overdyeds.

Sarah Elliott, The Sewing Chest of a Nantucket Sister Sailor
from Primitive Traditions
Sarah Elliott, The Sewing Chest of a Nantucket Sister Sailor from Primitive Traditions - click for more
A STUNNING piece... a sewing chest inspired by the diaries of women who went whaling with their husbands in the early 1800's. Called 'Sailing Sisters,' they endured years at sea away from their families accompanying their husbands on the long, arduous voyages of whale hunting around Cape Horn, into the South Pacific, around the Hawaiian Islands, up to Alaska and on to China! Although Sarah Elliott is a fictional lady... her chest is steeped in rich history of the day.

Offered charts, Sarah's sewing chest consists of an exquisite harbor scene on the chest top -- you can see the checkerboard water and the tall ship. (Lovely blues, teals, bricks, greys and whitewashed sands...) It speaks of the sailor leaving his home, remembering family 'with a tear.' Next, there is a lining to the interior top of the chest -- 'Forget Me Not.' Each of the four interior sides features stitching -- the two longer sides feature pockets with stitched fronts that hold precious locks of hair or needlework tools. (I think one of our pics shows the pockets very well.) There are coordinating needle pages, a Biscornu pin cushion -- inspired by Sarah's Quaker upbringing -- a scissor fob and case -- all decorated with mermaids and seaside motifs to match the box top.

Looking down at the top of the box All the stitched pieces are assembled either into the accessories or actual lining and topping pieces for the handpainted 9 x 6 x 5-1/2 matte black box. Decorated with charming metal loop-rings on the sides, and a faux lock on the front, the top piece comes off. So you can 'fit' the interior of the box, and line both the top and underside of the lid. (There is even a piece of felt included to glue onto the underside of the box!) Notice the engraved Olde Colonial Brass Ruler -- 6 inches -- included, as well as the EXQUISITE scrimshaw piece -- A Busk Bookmark -- that is decorated with a scallop shell, ropes, tall ships, the sun, a mermaid, sea monsters, Nantucket baskets and a mariner's star. There is so much detail in here... that even on the scissor pocket piece, the three sailors all have different haircuts!!! (French Knots and little Straight Stitches!!!)

The Sarah Elliott scissor pocket - click to see moreThere are finishing instructions throughout... I love the page telling the story of the piece... you get the placement guide for all the stitched pieces on the main linen cut, and since everything is stitched in DMC, Crescent Colours and Sampler Threads... your stash is waiting with the threads!!! Lots of chart enlargements, great finishing steps and hints... we are even treated to a bibliography of resource and historical reading about whaling!!!

Package includes the charts and finishing instructions, the hand-painted chest, the scrimshaw piece (the size of a tongue depressor!), the engraved brass ruler, a sterling whale charm, button (an antique circa 1850 bone button!) and felt for the trunk bottom. Available separately is the 1/2 yard cut of Lakeside Linens 36ct Mourning Dove Linen, and any flosses you don't already own.

This piece is simply stunning! I have a hard time describing its charm! The colors are what you'd expect from a seaside, distressed and weathered scenario... and together with the antiqued loops on either side of the trunk... it presents itself as a miniature, historic picture -- preserved through your needlework -- a glimpse into the past -- a glimpse into the life of another needlewoman. (Although the linen is listed as a reservation... we expect most of our shipments to arrive within these first 3 weeks of pattern release.)
Note: these have sold like hotcakes, and our first shipment has sold out. We're now taking reservations for early September shipment.

May we present a most charming set of Santa's Reindeer??? By Mirabilia's Nora Corbett, this is an exquisite set of 6 charts -- each of one of Santa's devoted reindeer -- dressed and ready for Christmas Eve's Special Deliveries!!! 'On Dasher, On Dancer, On Prancer and Vixen... On Comet, On Cupid, On Donner and Blitzen...' We are missing three of the set -- Comet, Prancer and Rudolph!!! (No, we have no news about future releases!)

Anyway, Nora has designed this lovely set of reindeer, that each share the same stitch count, so therefore, the same finished size of approx 5 x 6-1/4 on 32ct. Beautiful DMC colors, each features some Rainbow Gallery Wisper thread -- presumably for deer tails, bits of metallic, and Mill Hill glass beads and treasure embellishments for some extra sparkle! Choose Twilight Blue as your fabric... we have it in several counts.

The little reindeer are colorful and charming... very festive! In my minds eye, I see Dasher and Donner as a set, Dancer and Blitzen as a pair -- because of their trees, and Vixen and Cupid together. Of course, you can choose any that you want, and certainly all 6! They are elegant... wouldn't they be pretty pillows on your chairs this year? Offered as charts. Embellishments (the beads and treasures) are offered separately. Just put your cursor over each image to see its name.
